Introduction To Mops

Apr 01, 2026 Leave a message

A mop is a long-handled cleaning tool consisting of a handle and a head, primarily used for scrubbing floors. Its predecessor was a rag; the addition of a long handle significantly improved cleaning efficiency, leading to its development into an independent tool. Traditional mops were made by binding strips of cloth to a wooden handle, a simple and inexpensive structure.

As floor materials evolved, mops underwent continuous innovation in design and materials. In the 20th century, improved models with wringing and spin-drying functions appeared, solving the problem of inconvenient mop head cleaning.

Mop head materials evolved from cotton strips to microfiber, PVA, and others. PVA, due to its high absorbency and ease of wringing, became a common choice for kitchens and bathrooms. Structurally, crank mops were developed to reduce debris scattering, and designs such as dual-drive rotation and extendable handles improved flexibility. Some new mops expanded into cleaning walls, ceilings, and other three-dimensional spaces, becoming multi-functional cleaning tools.
